Runner-up candidate of PML-N Rana Ahsan had challenged the victory of Aleem Khan from PP-158, Lahore in July 2018 general election. Khan had secured 52319 while Ahsan got 45229 votes in the polls.
The petitioner pleaded that the returned candidate failed to disclose details of his properties, tax particulars and inquiries pending against him at the time filing of his nomination papers. He alleged that the minister was a defaulter of Rs 9.3 million in terms of Employees Old-Age Benefit (EOBI) funds. He said inquiries had been pending against Khan before the NAB and the FIA but he had not disclosed them in his nomination papers.
The petitioner further accused the senior minister of grabbing hundreds of acre state and private land. He therefore asked the court to declare the respondent disqualified to hold a public office.
On the other side, the counsel of Khan denied the charges levelled against his client and stated that he disclosed complete detail of assets, properties and tax returns in the nomination papers. He argued that the respondent concealed no facts which could entail disqualification.
